How to Build Pax in Exaverse Season 1

The best Exaverse builds combine an Instinct, one of Pax’s powerup Surges, and boons that strengthen the same strategy.

Pax can specialize in single-target damage, crowd control, defense, random powerups, or Jungle traps. The right choice depends on the Instincts and boons offered during your run.

This guide covers the strongest Season 1 build directions without requiring one exact combination.

How Builds Work in Exaverse

At the beginning of a run, three Instinct cards appear from five possible options. Your selection increases the appearance of a specific GEM color and establishes the direction of your build.

The five paths are:

  • Crimson Instinct: More RED GEMS for POWER builds.
  • Azure Instinct: More BLUE GEMS for SPREAD builds.
  • Golden Instinct: More YELLOW GEMS for GUARD builds.
  • Verdant Instinct: More GREEN GEMS for VITALITY builds.
  • Ashen Instinct: More GREY GEMS with a chance to create random powerups.

Later offers contain Core, Pax, and Jungle boons. New boons begin at Level 1 and can be upgraded to Level 3.

Some advanced boons have prerequisites. For example, Chain and Repeat require a Surge, while Amplify requires a Surge plus Chain or Repeat.

A run provides ten standard boon offers, with bonus opportunities potentially increasing the total to twelve. This rewards focused builds instead of selecting every available effect.

Best RAZOR CLAW Build

Best for: Bosses and dangerous individual robots

Start with Crimson Instinct, then prioritize:

  1. Claw Surge
  2. Repeat
  3. Crimson Charge
  4. Amplify

Claw Surge adds lightning damage to RAZOR CLAW. Repeat strikes the first target again, while Amplify rewards attacks that produce several connected lightning hits.

Crimson Charge completes the build by allowing RED GEMS to strengthen the next Claw Surge.

This is Pax’s most focused single-target build and a strong choice for reaching Amethyron with reliable boss damage.

Best STAMPEDE Build

Best for: Groups of robots and crowded stages

Start with Azure Instinct, then prioritize:

  1. Stampede Surge
  2. Chain
  3. Azure Charge
  4. Amplify

Stampede Surge shocks every enemy hit by STAMPEDE. Chain extends that lightning to additional targets, while Azure Charge allows BLUE GEMS to add more targets to a future Stampede Surge.

Amplify becomes especially effective once several lightning hits are happening during the same activation.

If it becomes available, Overload Return can extend an advanced Chain and Amplify combination even farther.

This is the best general crowd-control build for clearing groups before they surround Pax.

Best SHIELD Build

Best for: Safer runs and counterattacks

Start with Golden Instinct, then prioritize:

  1. Shield Surge
  2. Golden Charge
  3. Chain or Repeat
  4. Survival Shell

Shield Surge stores lightning when a player-used SHIELD blocks an attack. That stored energy is released during Pax’s next damaging action.

Golden Charge allows YELLOW GEMS to strengthen the next Shield Surge. Chain or Repeat can then spread or repeat the released damage.

Survival Shell provides an emergency SHIELD at low health. It is useful protection, but its automatic shield does not create Shield Surge charges. The core build still depends on timing Pax’s normal SHIELD powerup.

Equipment with additional SHIELD duration is especially useful for this strategy.

Best GREY GEM Powerup Build

Best for: Flexible and unpredictable runs

Start with Ashen Instinct, then prioritize:

  1. Ashen Jackpot
  2. Overcharge Surge
  3. Any available Pax Surge
  4. Chain or Repeat

Ashen Instinct gives GREY GEMS a chance to create a random powerup. Ashen Jackpot makes powerups created this way stronger.

Overcharge Surge gives used powerups a chance to refresh for an additional use, making this build less predictable but potentially very powerful.

Because the generated powerup is random, this path works best when you remain flexible. Select Claw Surge, Stampede Surge, or Shield Surge based on the other boons appearing during the run.

Best Jungle Trap Build

Best for: Turning the Jungle against its robots

Prioritize:

  1. Territory Surge
  2. Spore Bloom
  3. Defensive or powerup boons that support the rest of your run

Territory Surge causes Jungle plant traps to damage enemies while reducing the damage they deal to Pax.

Once Territory Surge is active, Spore Bloom can make trapped enemies misfire during their following actions.

This build is specific to the Jungle biome. It is particularly useful when enemies can be guided toward traps instead of fought directly.

Golden Instinct offers a safer defensive pairing, while Ashen Instinct adds more powerup opportunities. Choose based on the other cards offered during the run.

Alternative VITALITY Build

Players who prefer maintaining high health can start with Verdant Instinct and combine any Pax Surge with Verdant Overflow.

Verdant Overflow increases seasonal Surge damage while Pax remains at high health. Healing from GREEN GEMS helps maintain that condition.

This path works with RAZOR CLAW, STAMPEDE, or SHIELD, making it a flexible alternative when Crimson, Azure, or Golden Instinct is not offered.

Boons and Equipment Are Different

Boons create a temporary build that resets after each run. Equipment provides persistent Attack and Defense improvements across multiple runs.

Equipment can strengthen Pax’s original attacks and powerup effects, but it does not multiply the additional seasonal damage created by Surge, Chain, Repeat, or Jungle trap boons.

For Season 1, equipment progression is limited to Uncommon rarity and Level 15. The best equipment depends on your chosen build:

  • Prioritize high-damage powerup bonuses for RAZOR CLAW.
  • Prioritize multi-target powerup bonuses for STAMPEDE.
  • Prioritize SHIELD duration and Defense for Shield Surge.
  • Prioritize Health or environmental resistance for Jungle survival.

Which Exaverse Build Is Best?

The RAZOR CLAW build is strongest against individual targets and bosses. The STAMPEDE build is better for clearing groups, while the SHIELD build provides the safest path through difficult stages.

GREY GEM and Jungle trap builds are less direct, but they can create some of the most unusual runs.

Not every boon is available immediately, and every run presents different offers. Treat these builds as priorities rather than fixed recipes. Strengthening three or four connected boons is usually better than spreading upgrades across unrelated effects.
