Meet Pax: Exaverse’s Parasaurolophus-Inspired Hero
Most dinosaur games ask you to hunt, tame, collect, or survive prehistoric creatures. In Extinction of the Exaverse, you play as a dinosaur.
Pax is the first playable Exadon in Exaverse. His design is inspired by Parasaurolophus, one of the most recognizable crested dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous.
But Pax is not living in a prehistoric simulation.
He mines GEMS, stacks boons, collects gear, and battles AI robots across quick mobile dungeon runs. His RAZOR CLAW, STAMPEDE, and SHIELD powerups give players three different ways to approach danger, while his character-specific boons turn those abilities into chains of lightning.
For players looking for a dinosaur game where you can directly control the dinosaur, Pax offers a different kind of playable Parasaurolophus experience.
What Dinosaur Is Pax Based On?
Pax is modeled after Parasaurolophus, a large herbivorous dinosaur known for the long, curved crest extending from the back of its skull.
According to the Natural History Museum’s Parasaurolophus profile, Parasaurolophus lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous Period, approximately 77 to 73 million years ago. It could move on either two or four legs and may have reached around nine meters in length.
Parasaurolophus belonged to the hadrosaur family, often called duck-billed dinosaurs. Unlike the carnivorous dinosaurs that usually lead games and movies, it was a plant eater.
Its most recognizable feature was its hollow tubular crest. Scientists are still researching exactly how the crest was used, but leading theories include communication, visual recognition, and temperature regulation. The Royal Ontario Museum’s Parasaurolophus fossil shows just how large and distinctive this crest could become.
That crest is also the clearest visual connection between Pax and his prehistoric inspiration. It gives Pax a recognizable silhouette that remains easy to identify during quick mobile gameplay.
Pax is not intended to be a scientifically exact reconstruction. His RAZOR CLAW, electrical abilities, equipment, and intelligence belong to the evolved world of Exaverse, not the real Parasaurolophus.
Why Make a Parasaurolophus the First Playable Hero?
Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor are the obvious choices for a dinosaur game character. Pax begins somewhere less expected.
Parasaurolophus was not an apex predator. It was a large herbivore that likely relied on size, movement, awareness, and safety in numbers. Turning that kind of dinosaur into the first hero of Exaverse creates a different power fantasy.
Pax still feels physically powerful. His size supports the force behind STAMPEDE, while his distinctive head crest makes him immediately recognizable. But his identity is not built around being a prehistoric monster.
He is an evolved dinosaur defending his world from machines.
That contrast is central to Exaverse. The dinosaurs are not the threat. They are the characters trying to survive it.
From Parasaurolophus to Exadon
Exaverse takes place in a parallel world where dinosaurs never went extinct. Over millions of years, they continued evolving and eventually became intelligent beings known as Exadons.
The Exadons developed their own civilizations around powerful GEMS buried throughout their planet. When AI machines invaded and began consuming their world, the dinosaurs were pushed toward extinction once again.
Learn more about their history in The World of the Exaverse.
Pax is the first playable introduction to that world.
He retains visual elements of Parasaurolophus, but he is no longer simply a prehistoric animal. He can understand threats, use equipment, develop new abilities, and create a different build during every run.
In Season 1, Pax enters the Jungle biome to mine GEMS, avoid hazards, battle specialized robots, and survive long enough to reach the final boss.
Can You Play as a Dinosaur in Exaverse?
Yes. Exaverse is a game where you directly play as an evolved dinosaur.
Pax is not a mount, collectible, or companion controlled by another character. He is the player character.
While controlling Pax, you will:
- Explore tactical dungeon stages
- Mine GEMS
- Attack or avoid AI robots
- Collect and time powerups
- Choose boons that shape your build
- Equip gear found during runs
- Locate the exit portal
- Prepare for the biome boss
Every movement changes the situation. A single action can move Pax closer to a GEM, place him inside an enemy’s attack range, or create an opening to escape.
The controls are simple enough for one-handed mobile play, but progressing deeper requires positioning, timing, and a build that works together. The complete run structure is covered in our How to Play Exaverse guide.

Pax’s Core Powerups
Pax begins with three powerups that support offensive, multi-target, and defensive playstyles.
RAZOR CLAW
RAZOR CLAW is Pax’s focused attack.
It is designed to deal heavy damage to a single target, making it useful when one dangerous robot is blocking the path or applying pressure. It can also help concentrate damage on stronger enemies and bosses.
RAZOR CLAW rewards players who identify the most important threat instead of attacking whatever happens to be closest.
STAMPEDE
STAMPEDE turns Pax’s movement and size into a multi-target attack.
Instead of concentrating damage on one robot, STAMPEDE can hit several enemies and create space when Pax is being surrounded. It becomes increasingly valuable in rooms where multiple machines are controlling different paths.
Players can use it aggressively to push through a group or defensively to prevent several enemies from closing in at once.
SHIELD
SHIELD protects Pax from incoming attacks for a limited period.
It can provide enough time to cross a dangerous section, survive an enemy pattern, collect a valuable GEM, or recover from a positioning mistake.
SHIELD is not only a defensive tool. With the right Pax boons, every successful block can contribute to his next attack.

Pax’s Lightning Boons
Powerups solve immediate problems. Boons shape the rest of the run.
Pax has his own character-specific boon path built around lightning. These boons can enhance each of his three powerups and connect separate attacks into longer electrical sequences.
Claw Surge
Claw Surge causes RAZOR CLAW to call lightning onto its target.
This adds electrical damage to Pax’s focused single-target powerup and creates a foundation for offensive lightning builds.
Stampede Surge
Stampede Surge shocks every enemy hit by STAMPEDE.
The more enemies Pax reaches with the original attack, the more opportunities he creates for electrical damage. This makes the boon well suited to crowded stages and multi-target pressure.
Shield Surge
Shield Surge stores lightning whenever Pax blocks an attack with SHIELD.
That stored energy is released during his next damaging action, turning successful defense into a counterattack. Players who time their SHIELD carefully can protect Pax while preparing the next offensive move.
Chain, Repeat, and Amplify
Pax’s three Surge boons create lightning. Other character boons determine what that lightning does next.
Chain
Chain allows lightning to jump to additional enemies.
It can turn a focused electrical hit into a wider attack, helping Pax pressure robots that were not struck by the original powerup.
Repeat
Repeat causes lightning to strike its first target again.
This reinforces focused damage and helps Pax finish a dangerous enemy before it can create another threat.
Amplify
Amplify makes each lightning hit strengthen the next hit in the sequence.
A longer combination of Surge, Chain, and Repeat effects can therefore become more powerful as it continues. Instead of treating every lightning strike as an isolated effect, Amplify rewards players for creating connected attacks.
Together, these boons let Pax develop beyond his starting powerups. RAZOR CLAW, STAMPEDE, and SHIELD remain easy to understand, but the effects attached to them can change considerably during a run.
Three Ways to Build Around Pax
Pax does not have one required playstyle. His powerups and boons can support several different approaches.
Focused Damage
RAZOR CLAW, Claw Surge, and Repeat concentrate damage on a priority target.
This direction is useful when a specific robot or boss presents a greater threat than the other enemies in the room.
Multi-Target Pressure
STAMPEDE, Stampede Surge, and Chain spread damage across several enemies.
This approach is better suited to crowded stages where controlling space is more important than immediately defeating one target.
Defensive Counterattacks
SHIELD and Shield Surge allow Pax to store energy while protecting himself.
Adding Chain, Repeat, or Amplify can make the resulting counterattack more dangerous, rewarding players who know when to block and when to strike back.
Exact boon values may change during early access, but this choice between focused power, multi-target pressure, and defensive counterattacks is central to Pax’s gameplay identity.

A Different Kind of Parasaurolophus Game Character
Pax is not designed to recreate the daily life of a real Parasaurolophus.
You will not be searching a prehistoric ecosystem for plants, raising a herd, or hiding from Late Cretaceous predators. Exaverse instead asks what a Parasaurolophus-inspired dinosaur could become after millions of additional years of evolution.
The result is a playable dinosaur character with a recognizable prehistoric foundation and an entirely different purpose.
Pax keeps the crest and physical presence that make Parasaurolophus memorable. Exaverse then adds intelligence, tactical combat, equipment, powerups, and a lightning-focused boon path.
This approach will continue as more dinosaur characters enter Exaverse. Each real species provides a starting point, while its Exadon counterpart can develop a distinct visual identity, playstyle, and set of abilities.
